What is a Comprehensive Plan?
A comprehensive plan describes how, and at what pace, a community desires to develop.
It can help communities ensure that they are providing high quality public facilities and services, a strong economic base, a sound housing stock, and an efficient transportation network, while still protecting historic, cultural, and natural resources. The planning process also helps to identify creative ways to provide essential services in a more effective and efficient manner.
The main purpose of a comprehensive plan is to provide communities with a blueprint for directing resources - time and money - towards publicly supported projects, which are identified through the planning process.
First Public Meeting
The City of Meadville is currently undergoing an update to their existing Comprehensive Plan and as part of that process, an initial public open house meeting was held on January 17, 2012 from 3-5 PM and 7-9 PM at the Bessemer Building. 116 people attended the open house.
Attendees were able to provide input on the Comprehensive Plan Update and ask questions of City staff, officials and members of the project team at various stations. The meeting included a Community Facilities station, a Connections station and four stations focused on various planning regions within the City (North, East, West and Central). Attendees were also asked to complete an Exit Survey to provide additional information regarding the plan update. A summary of the meeting results can be found here.
